Outer Banks’ premier jewelry designer, DeSpain began her career in 1974 and has since handcrafted her own creations. Besides being a creative designer and skilled goldsmith, DeSpain is a graduate gemologist. The rare and precious gems used in her work come from all over the world and represent the highest quality in gemstones available. It’s the perfect combination for finding that special gift or creating that one-of-a-kind engagement ring.

In addition to showcasing her own work, DeSpain’s shop at Osprey Landing serves as a gallery for talented artists from across the United States, as well as local designers she has handpicked for their skill and individuality in expression. DeSpain says “My mission is to create for you a piece of the Outer Banks which you can wear home and treasure forever.”

This is one of the oldest make-your-own T-shirt shops on the Outer Banks, where customers can come and pick from over 800 decal designs. Naturally, with that number to choose from, there is just about every theme imaginable. Blank shirts in all different colors, even tie-dye include short sleeve, sleeveless, hoodies, sweats, baby onesies, kids and long-sleeved. The store also carries a large   of necessary tourist items like OBX souvenirs, towels, sunglasses, hats, and stickers.

The walls are lined with Jelly Belly dispensers in every color an, below those, containers of candy ranging from gummy bears to double chocolate bacon and sea-salt creations.  You can get your sweets by the bar or by the pound at OBX Sugar Shack, along with taffy, gourmet chocolates, handmade fudge, popcorn and more.

The owner opened the shop in 2013 to offer a fun vibrant, Willy Wonka inspired candy store for  children and adults alike.  You can bet the majority of customers are children nurturing a sweet tooth, but adults can find what they are looking for too, in the gourmet chocolate case. Irish cream truffles, yum – and a large selection of wine. There are also fun signs for the chocolate lover “all you need is love and chocolate”, the dedicated beachgoers “if you’re not barefoot then you’re overdressed” and just about everyone else.

The biggest crowd pleaser is the Harry Potter section, with favorites like Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans and Butterbeer, but that doesn’t mean blasts from the past like the PEZ dispensers are overlooked.
